GRAVY

  • My first novel started with a mole. Yes, a MOLE - a freckle, a birthmark, whatever you want to call it.
  • I was at the pool with my daughter getting ignored by our swim instructor when a lifeguard with a particularly ripped abdomen walked by. He stopped to flirt with one of the female lifeguards and my eyes flew directly to an adorable mole on the top can of his six-pack.
  • "How cute!" I thought (among other things). "He looks like a character in a romance novel!"
  • So I went home and started writing fiction for the first time. That was over a year ago and I still haven't been able to stop. GRAVY is the story of a suburban housewife who wants another baby, but gets a man with a mole instead.
  • GRAVY is now available on Kindle and Nook!

Send your hair to me. I'll send mine to you. We'll, y'know, TRADE.

Your hair looks like my daughter's - she's nearly toe-head blonde, but other than that ... same.

And I think it is BEAUTIFUL, but then I grew up in the 80's, so....

Rayne of Terror

I thought 1988 is what all the kids are doing in California. Get some acid washed tapered jeans with zippers at the ankles and some Sam & Libby flats and you are all set.

Shellby

You need to cut it. It's way too long, that's what's making it look 80's. Cut about 6 inches off and have what's left done with long layers so it doesn't stick our from your head like a space helmet. JMO, of course.

Heatherg

Dont do anything-
your prolly just in a "mood"
lol

Bunny

"I had no idea I was walking around with 1988 to my head" Priceless! I love it!
Sorry, I have no advice, I have had the same hairstyle my whole life.

i have hair JUST LIKE YOURS and unless i do a simple routine every other morning or so, it will continue to be frizzy. i can send you pictures too of what the drastic difference is when cutting your hair a little bit shorter and having long layers like someone mentioned above. you should have picture proof before you do anything! :)

I still think you have cute hair! Maybe you could cut a bunch off and have it professionally straightened? That would definitely be refreshing I'm sure.

I know how you feel! Just 2 weeks ago I finally bit the bullet and got my hair done for the first time since Avery was born (ahem, almost 7 months ago...and who knows when I got it done before she was born, so we could be talking 10 months of neglect).
I was tired of looking like the girl in the "Before" picture. LET ME SAY that it was the BEST thing I have done for myself in a long time. I just felt great about myself after. I got about 6 inches cut off and long layers added. It was time and money well spent.

I think you should make an appointment and get it cut. You will be amazed how you will feel after. It truly is worth the cost.

Molly

I think you have great hair, but if you take off a some inches and put in long layers your curls will really come out. Make sure you go to a stylist that knows curly hair.

Sally

Have you thought about bangs? I'm a bangs person. Of course, I look like like I was frozen in 1992, so I'm probably not the one to listen too. I can totally picture you with hair at about shoulder blade length, blunt cut, with some mid-forhead length bangs (not heavy bangs, just a light fringe). I don't know if you'd have to do anything to keep your bangs from curling though, so maybe it wouldn't be practical for you.

dee

Cut it. It will make a big difference. I have the same thick, curly, frizzy hair and since I cut it short I've never been able to let it grow out again because it is so much easier to take care of. I definitely agree that cutting it and adding some long layers will help. Plus, if you don't like it, it will always grow back out.

Joceline

Whatever you do, absolutely do not straighten it (not that you have the time to anyway, right?). Get a decent amount of length taken off by someone who knows what they are doing with curly hair. If you ask a stylist how she cuts curly hair, and she answers that she cuts it just like straight hair, you are in the wrong place! Then cut out shampooing, use a good product (I like Alterna's hemp texturizing cream for curly hair. It is pricey, but it will last forever), and never touch it with heat. You have lovely hair; it just needs some love. I've been there.

Erin

I don't know what to tell you. I am suffering the same thing. My hair is making me absolutely insane.

I like the sounds of the advice given above.

Good luck!

Jenni

Had to chime in to echo the 'cut it and add long layers' crowd. I love my long layers--- takes some of the weight off. You could totally cut 6 inches off and still have really long hair, so why not give it a try!
Also, bangs might be interesting. They seem to be back in now. But, I'd start with the long layers and see how that works for you.

kerflop

You are KIDDING ME, RIGHT? Cut it off and transplant it onto my scalp. I love your hair. LOVE IT.

Ashley

Shoulder length and layers!

If you cut 10" or more you can send your hair to http://www.locksoflove.org/ and help a cancer patient.

Kymba

I think it's beautiful. Then again, I haven't fully let go of my crush on Tiffany, circa 1989.

What I think looks really great on gals with curly long hair is use whatever that product is that separates your curls, instead of brushing it out. Such an elegant look.

Michelle

suggestion #1) If you don't want to look like a member of Vixen AVOID BRUSHES AND HAIRSPRAY! NO TEASING!
suggestion #2) Find a competent stylist and ask for a beautiful, low-maintenence cut. A great cut can make ALL the difference

It doesn't matter how beautiful we all think your hair is, if your not in love with your hair then fix it!

Megan

Please don't straighten it, so pretty!!

DRegina

That length is too awesome to let go of just to "fix" it. If you're sick of long hair that's one thing, but you have long! beautiful! hair! that most women (myself included) would kill for.

Maybe this is one for Amalah? Her advice smackdown has covered every hair need known to man.

If you lived in Austin I'd send you to my stylist. I bet the right product and a trim with layers would put you right.

Also, as someone who has had bangs in the past, I would say - bangs are great, bangs are cute, just make sure your stylist is commited to helping you grow them out. I used to have really cute bangs, but I didn't have a bang exit strategy, and it was killer to grow them out.

megan

As a lifelong sufferer of the uncontrolable, thick, curly Jew fro it was all about finding the right cut, products and more importantly stylist. You need to find someone who knows how to wrangle and wrestle natural curls into a tame functional style. I will be coming back to CA for my haircut, that is how much I love my stylist and since we share the same 'hood email me off line and I'll give you her contact info if you like.

Jamie

I have a shoulder length version of your 'do. So obviously, I'm not going to be able to give you any advice. Naturally curly hair is a bitch to deal with in my experience, especially if it's shorter. When I have shorter hair than shoulder length, I have to blow dry it straight or else I look like Little Orphan Annie.

Jem

Gah! I wrote this long comment then my computer crashed. Anyway, I LOVE hair questions...I say cut a few inches off it at least. And getting it permanently straightened could be awesome. I'd totally recommend it, even though I love your curls. It'd make your hair so sleek.

Lacy

I think you have gorgeous hair, but I get needing a change. If you don't mind the drive - I have a WONDERFUL hairstylist in Los Gatos. Her prices are reasonable, and she is just.so.good. Good luck!!
