First off, Happy Birthday Seestor! I hope 22 is your bestest year yet!
I need some major help, dear Internet. I bought this giant FLOR rug for the family room and I'm totally not sure I like it (read: I don't like it). What should I do?! A bigger size? A different color? HELP!
EDITED TO ADD: I switched the rug the other direction and it made a big difference. It's still A) not large enough and b) too light. Back to the drawing board...
PS - click on the 3rd photo to see my Flickr notes about what else I'll be doing in that room.

I think the size is great but I would go with a different color. Maybe one of the colors from your fabulous drapes?

Not that I'm an interior designer or anything... but it seems like at its current size it makes the room feel smaller, so maybe a bigger size? As far as color, I guess it depends on what you're doing with the rest of the room...

See, now I like the shade/pattern, but I'm thinking you could definitely go a little bigger with this, especially if it's modular. The way it doesn't go all the way across to the end of the fireplace, and is kind of far from the club chair, is throwing me off a bit.

If it were my living room I would go much bigger and definately pull a greenish color out of the drapes.

I would go with something a in a darker shade and a bit bigger. It kind of divides the room in half. Bringing it over to meet the club chair would unite the two sides of the room.

I think that room needs a richer, darker colored rug. Maybe the big one will match the other room.

Know what else would be cool in there? Moving the tv over the fireplace and building a bookshelf into the corner stained to match the floors.
And the rug? BEARSKIN! Well, maybe not. :)

Add me to the ones who vote for color. Maybe even something with a bold pattern. It will make the room "pop."

I think it needs to be bigger and maybe...less flat? I would say bigger darker floofier rug, closer to the club chair, and then put something on the opposite wall(Bookshelf?) to balance the room.

Hmm. I like it fine the way it is. I guess I'm alone though.

There is a rug under the cute baby?
I think I would go bigger and a brighter/darker color. The color just doesn't seem to meld with the rest of your stuff.

Ummmm... the expanse of floor between chair and rug is throwing me off. Can you move it closer to the chair?
I could also go along with everyone else who said color, but that is mostly because I canNOT make up my mind about non-beige colors and so usually default to beige.

I like the color. What's throwing me off a bit is that there's no furniture around it. Where does it sit in relation to the couch and other furniture? Can you post another picture?

totally totally TOTALLY agree to move it closer to the chair/window. That's the thing that stood out immediately to me.

Bigger. definatly bigger.

The rich color of your furniture seems to warrant a rug with more color. It looks like there might be a chocolate or reddish brown color that you could pull from the drapes. Have your tried placing the rug at an angle and then placing the furniture around it? That might help too.

I'd go bigger for sure, but I'd also put a border on it, maybe with two different colors framing the cream color. I think the cream itself is too light, so maybe adding a brown, red and green border will tie together the elements in the room while enlarging the rug. Tht's the coolest thing about Flor rugs, you can change them at will!

I must have the designer ideas of a toddler because hell, i thought it looked ok both ways, color and all.
No one is ever invited to my house.
LOL

We have a niche over our fireplace too and had some adjustable shelves built into it. A nice place to display a few objets d'art or seasonal things. A neighbor built in clear glass shelves and uplighting.

My vote is for larger, and richer colour!

I think the rug should be bigger & square. The TV in the corner throws things off, it should be on top of the fireplace.

I think a border of tiles in a solid colour would be the thing to add. Or a border of half tiles. Right now the rug is fighting the furnishings and walls.
Perhaps this or if you want to start again, this might work better with the chair etc.
