Recipe for Orange-Pineapple Margaritas

Last week Carol clipped a page out of the food section of the newspaper featuring several recipes for making margaritas.  I promptly put it in the recycling bin, where it sat for almost a week before I realized that we wanted to have friends over on Sunday night and gee!  I could make margaritas!

I have to share this because it cracked me up, but this is how I invited Tana for dinner, by text message:

ME: You guys free this weekend?  Wanna come over for dinner on Sat or Sun?
TANA: Who is this? I think we're free on Sat or Sun.
ME: It's Amanda! This is my new cell number! We miss you guys! I'm thinking of making a taco buffet? 5:00? Sunday?
TANA: Lol. That sounds yummy.  I think that will work. Let me talk to hubby and get back to you. Tell us what you want us to bring.
TANA: Got you in my phone now!
TANA: Sunday 5ish sounds great.  What can we  bring?
ME: Tequila?  We can make margaritas!
TANA: great!!

And so it went...

And so John and Tana brought TEQUILA.  I figured they'd show up with a bottle of Cuervo, but no, they brought the good stuff - 1800, the 100% agave.  And now, in much the same way that I can no longer stay at a HoJo because I've experienced the luxury of a Hilton, Jose Cuervo is officially a thing of my past.

Anyway, except for this one, I took zero pictures last night, so you're just going to have to imagine what it looked like when I made this recipe.

ORANGE-PINEAPPLE MARGARITAS
Throw the following into a large blender:
1 cup pineapple chunks
1 cup pineapple juice
(if you buy a 20 0z can of pineapple chunks, throw the whole thing in, it's close enough)
1/4 cup frozen orange juice concentrate
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Juice of 2 limes
1/4 cup of honey
6 ounces of tequila (or 8)
Pinch of salt
1.5 cups of ice

BLEND until smooth.  It makes a frothy, delicious treat, for two if you use large glasses, four if you use regular glasses.

Or if you prefer, you can just blend everything together except the ice and then serve it on the rocks.  Trust me, if you buy the good tequila, these will be good no matter how you serve them.

It turned out that between me, Tana and John, we finished that entire bottle of tequila.  (Dave was busy enjoying the Glenlivet I brought back from California for him)  1800 is so smooth you barely realize you're drinking it!  I just kept making these margaritas and they kept magically disappearing.  And we couldn't stop laughing.  The kids were playing upstairs and at one point Genoa came down upset (read: screaming) about her brother.  None of us could understand what the heck she was saying and the tequila probably didn't help, but Tana and I were both laughing so hard we were crying.

"What happened, Genoa? Why are you crying?" Asked Dave
"I hit Alex and Alex hit me and then I hit Alex."
"Why did you hit Alex?"
"Well, I hit him and then he hit me and then I hit Alex."
"But WHY did you hit him first?"
"Well, he zshuzshed me."
"He did what?" I asked.
"He ZSHUZSHED me!"
"He pushed you?"
"NO, he ZSHUZSHED me!"
"He shushed you?"
"NO, he ZSHUZSHED me! And I hit him and then he hit me and then I hit Alex."
"He zapped you?"
"NO, he ZSHUZSHED me!"
"He ZSHUZHED you?"
"NO, I hit him and then he hit me and then I hit Alex!"
It went on like this for several minutes until she gave up, nodded her head and exclaimed, "I LIKE ROBOTS!" and then disappeared upstairs while the rest of us wiped the tears off our cheeks.

I guess you had to be there.

I had to read this out loud to my husband because he wanted to know what I was laughing at. I may not have been there but I think I got the joke.

I am so glad I found your blog! I think I am rapidly becoming one of your biggest fans, especially after that last post about not assuming anyone is stupid based on the way they vote.

After reading a post with the word margarita in it that many times, I had no choice but to run to the kitchen and make one. I like them so much with Cuervo that I now know I can NEVER try 1800 because, if it's as good as you say it is, I'd definitely end up in detox.

I hate being ZSHUZSHED! Really, especially when I'm having anything mixed with Te-killya.
I totally love the fact that she has no shame in admitting she whacked him 1st. Totally cool, cut out the middle man. But, then again he did ZSHUZSHED her. Shame on him!
